  New Cemetery dicovered in Palmyra
The Syrian-Japanese archeological mission working in the south-east region announced the discovery of a new cemetery in Palmyra dating-back to 98 A.D. The graveyard includes a main hall that leads to four burial rooms built with limestone. The graveyard was covered with sands and debris since the fall of Palmyra at the end of the 3rd. century. The middle room contains three intact funeral bedsteads on which are engraved Palmyrean funeral rites. The delicate and expressive sculptures found in this cemetery indicate the high level of civilization that was reached in Palmyra in the 2nd. century A.D. Beside its artistic importance, the cemetery reveals new pages from the history of this thriving kingdom.
